DENVER, CO – July 1, 2025 – The Houston Astros opened their road trip at Coors Field with a hard-fought 6-5 victory over the Colorado Rockies. The Astros offense capitalized on Colorado’s pitching, while their bullpen managed to hold off a late Rockies surge.
Astros reliever Bryan King (1-0) picked up the win after pitching a solid inning in relief. Josh Hader (24th save) closed out the game for Houston despite allowing a run in the ninth. Rockies starter Chase Dollander (2-9) took the loss, struggling early and giving up six runs.
The Rockies struck first in the bottom of the first with a solo home run from Hunter Goodman. However, the Astros quickly responded in the top of the second when Christian Walker singled home Cam Smith, tying the game at 1-1.
The Astros then exploded for four runs in the third inning. After Jeremy Peña scored on a force out, Victor Caratini launched a grand slam to right field, his 7th homer of the season, extending Houston’s lead to 6-1.
The Rockies chipped away at the lead. They added a run in the third on a sacrifice fly and another in the fourth on an RBI double. In the ninth, they pushed across two more runs, including an RBI double, but Hader managed to get the final out, stranding the tying run at third.
Houston managed 9 hits in the high-altitude affair, with Jose Altuve, Cam Smith, and Victor Caratini each collecting two.
With the victory, the Houston Astros began July on a positive note and improved their season record to 51 wins and 34 losses (51-34). They will continue their series against the Rockies tomorrow.
