The Houston Astros made three roster moves Saturday, trading right-hander Jayden Murray to the Chicago Cubs and purchasing the contract of infielder Brandon Nigh from the Boise Hawks of the independent Pioneer League.
In return for Murray, the Astros received 25-year-old first baseman Cameron Sisneros, a left-handed hitter who spent this season split between High-A South Bend and Double-A Knoxville. Sisneros hit .265 with six home runs, 37 RBIs, and an .841 OPS across both levels. The Cubs drafted him in the 14th round in 2024 out of East Tennessee State. He is expected to report to Double-A Corpus Christi.
Murray, 29, was designated for assignment June 16 when Hunter Brown was reinstated from the injured list. He appeared in eight games for Houston this season, posting a 7.43 ERA. He had also appeared in 14 games for Triple-A Sugar Land, going 0-1 with six saves and a 1.17 ERA. Over parts of two seasons with the Astros, he posted a 4.68 ERA in 25 career big league innings.
Nigh, 22, played four seasons at Oakland University before going undrafted in 2025 and signing with Boise to open 2026. In 24 games with the Hawks, the third baseman hit .342/.495/.620 with five home runs and 34 RBIs, drawing 23 walks against 20 strikeouts. Purchasing his contract allows Houston to bring him into its player development system after his strong start in independent ball.
