HOUSTON, TX – June 10, 2025 – On a special Pride Night celebrating Houston’s LGBTQ+ community at Daikin Park, the Houston Astros returned home from a successful road trip only to fall to the Chicago White Sox 4-2 in the opener of their three-game series. Despite the festive atmosphere and a special Pride Hat giveaway, the White Sox capitalized on early scoring opportunities and held off a late Astros rally.
Astros right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. (1-2) took the loss, pitching five innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits. For the White Sox, Shane Smith (3-3) earned the win, giving up just two runs on nine hits over six innings. Brandon Eisert (2nd save) closed out the game.
The White Sox got on the board in the top of the second inning when Eloy Jiménez hit an RBI single. They extended their lead in the top of the third with a two-run single from Andrew Vaughn, making it 3-0.
The Astros responded in the bottom of the third when Jose Altuve hit an RBI single, scoring Jake Meyers and cutting the deficit to 3-1.
However, the White Sox immediately answered in the top of the fourth with another RBI single from Eloy Jiménez, pushing their lead back to 4-1.
The Astros made it a two-run game in the bottom of the eighth when Christian Walker hit a solo home run to left field, his 12th of the season, making the score 4-2. But that was as close as they would get, as the White Sox bullpen shut them down in the ninth.
The Astros outhit the White Sox 9-4, but struggled to get key hits with runners on base.
The loss brought the Astros’ record to 36-30. They look to even the series in the next game, hoping for a better result on the field following a night of community celebration.
