Notes

The Astros open a three-game series Friday night against the Athletics at Daikin Park looking to start the weekend on a better note after dropping two of three to Pittsburgh. And guess who’s back? Jose Altuve returns to the lineup after missing time with a left oblique strain and immediately slides back into the middle of the order. His return comes as the Astros have started to look more stable in recent days, with Josh Hader active again, Yordan Alvarez continuing his power surge, and Hunter Brown progressing through his rehab assignment. Peter Lambert gets the ball Friday against rookie right-hander Jack Perkins as Houston begins six straight division games—three at home against the Athletics before heading west for a three-game series in Anaheim against the Angels.
