HOUSTON, TX – July 13, 2025 – On 713 Day, a special occasion celebrating Houston’s area code, the Astros stumbled into the All-Star break with a 5-1 loss to the Texas Rangers today at Daikin Park, dropping the final game of their series. The Rangers’ early offense proved too much for the Astros to overcome, as their bats remained largely silent on a day meant for local pride.
Astros right-hander Hunter Brown (9-4) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits over five innings. He struck out eight but was hurt by some timely hitting from the Rangers. For the Rangers, Nathan Eovaldi (7-3) was dominant, earning the win by pitching 7.2 innings, giving up only one run on five hits while striking out eight.
The Rangers got on the board in the top of the second inning. Evan Carter hit an RBI triple, and Ezequiel Duran followed with a ground-rule RBI double, putting the Rangers up 2-0.
They extended their lead in the top of the third when Adolis García launched a solo home run to left field, his 13th of the season, making it 3-0. An additional run came in the fourth via a sacrifice fly from Alejandro Osuna, pushing the score to 4-0.
The Astros finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning. Zack Short belted a solo home run to left field, his first of the season, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
However, the Rangers answered back in the eighth inning when Marcus Semien hit a solo home run, his 12th of the season, making the score 5-1.
The Astros’ offense managed just six hits in the game and struggled to string anything together against Eovaldi and the Rangers bullpen. Hunter Brown left runners on base in several innings but managed to limit the damage after the early runs.
The loss brings the Astros’ record to 56-40 as they head into the All-Star break. Their next game will be Friday, July 18, in Seattle as they face off against division rivals the Mariners.
