The Houston Astros have placed right-hander Cody Bolton on the 15-day injured list with mid-back inflammation, retroactive to April 13, the club announced Wednesday.
Bolton, who had been pressed into rotation duty amid a wave of injuries, was struck in the back by a line drive during his April 6 start in Colorado. He made his next start April 12 in Seattle but was removed after one inning when the area began to tighten. The Astros expect him to return in early May.
His placement means four pitchers who have started games for Houston this season—Bolton, Hunter Brown, Cristian Javier, and Tatsuya Imai—are now on the injured list. Spencer Arrighetti, recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land to fill Bolton’s roster spot, will become the ninth different starting pitcher the Astros have used this season when he takes the mound tonight against the Rockies. He went 1-1 with a 1.76 ERA in three starts at Sugar Land before his recall.
