ARLINGTON, TX – May 15, 2025 – The Houston Astros opened a four-game road series against the Texas Rangers yesterday with a tight 1-0 loss at Globe Life Field. In an anticipated pitching duel that lived up to its billing, the Rangers managed to scratch across the game’s only run.
Astros right-hander Hunter Brown (6-2) took the tough-luck loss, delivering an otherwise excellent performance. He pitched seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits and one walk while striking out six. For the Rangers, ace Jacob deGrom (4-1) was dominant, earning the win by tossing eight scoreless innings, giving up five hits and striking out nine. Shawn Armstrong (2nd save) closed out the ninth for Texas.
The game was a classic pitchers’ battle, with both Brown and deGrom baffling hitters through much of the contest.
The only run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jake Burger hit a solo home run off Hunter Brown, a 394-foot drive into the right-center field bullpen, breaking the scoreless tie and putting the Rangers up 1-0.
The Astros offense struggled to solve deGrom, managing just five hits through the entire game and failing to push a runner past second base. The closest they came was in the seventh when they had a runner on second with two outs, but Rangers right fielder Adolis García made a sliding catch on a sinking liner by Mauricio Dubón to end the threat.
The loss dropped the Astros’ record to 22-21. The rivalry series continues the following day.
