CHICAGO, IL – May 2, 2025 – The Houston Astros opened their three-game road series against the Chicago White Sox last night with a 7-3 loss at Guaranteed Rate Field. Despite outhitting their opponent, the Astros struggled to convert opportunities, while the White Sox capitalized on key hits and late-game scoring.

Astros left-hander Framber Valdez (1-4) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings, while striking out six. White Sox starter Jonathan Cannon (2-3) earned the win, giving up two runs on nine hits in six innings.

The White Sox got on the board early. In the first inning, Edgar Quero doubled to score a run, and in the second, Chase Meidroth singled to drive in another, putting Chicago up 2-0.

The Astros got a run back in the fourth when Yainer Díaz doubled to score Christian Walker, making it 2-1.

However, the White Sox extended their lead in the fifth inning with a solo home run from Luis Robert Jr. and an RBI single from Edgar Quero, pushing the score to 4-1.

Houston continued to chip away, with Jake Meyers singling in a run in the sixth to make it 4-2, and Yainer Díaz hitting a solo home run (his third of the season) in the eighth, bringing the Astros within one run at 4-3.

But the White Sox offense exploded for three runs in the bottom of the eighth off Astros relievers Tayler Scott and Bennett Sousa, sealing their victory. Jacob Amaya, Brooks Baldwin, and Michael A. Taylor all contributed RBIs in the rally.

The Astros collected 10 hits in the game, but left 8 runners on base and were unable to string together hits when it mattered most. The loss dropped the Astros’ record to 16-15.
