KANSAS CITY, MO – April 27, 2025 – The Houston Astros snapped their two-game losing streak and avoided a three-game sweep by the Kansas City Royals, securing a 7-3 victory at Kauffman Stadium. A dominant outing from Hunter Brown and a powerful offensive display, highlighted by Yordan Alvarez’s three-run homer, led the Astros to victory.
Astros right-hander Hunter Brown (4-1) was brilliant, earning the win after allowing just one run on seven hits and one walk over six innings, while striking out nine. He extended his impressive scoreless streak before a run finally crossed in the fifth inning. Royals starter Kris Bubic (2-2) took the loss, surrendering four runs on five hits and three walks in five innings.
The Astros offense, which had been shut out in the previous two games, finally broke through in the third inning. With two runners on, Yordan Alvarez crushed a three-run home run to center field, snapping Houston’s 26-inning scoreless streak and giving the Astros an early 3-0 lead.
Houston continued to add to their advantage. In the top of the fifth, Jeremy Peña hit an RBI single, making it 4-0. The Royals got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double from Bobby Witt Jr., cutting the lead to 4-1.
But the Astros kept pressing. In the sixth, Peña delivered again, this time with a two-run double, pushing the lead to 6-1. Yainer Díaz then added a solo home run in the seventh inning, extending Houston’s lead to 7-1.
The Royals managed to score two more runs in the later innings, one in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Jonathan India and another in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Astros’ lead.
Houston’s offense collected 9 hits in the game, with Chas McCormick leading the way with three hits and three runs scored. Jeremy Peña also had a strong performance with three RBIs.
The win puts the Astros’ record at 14-13 as they conclude their road trip and prepare to return home.
