HOUSTON, TX – April 22, 2025 – The Houston Astros delivered a commanding 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays last night at Daikin Park, extending their win streak to three games. A dominant performance from starter Ronel Blanco and a strong offensive start powered Houston.
Astros right-hander Ronel Blanco (2-2) was sharp, earning the win after allowing just one run on two hits over 6 2/3 innings, while striking out three. He effectively silenced the Blue Jays’ bats for much of the game. Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt (2-1) took the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings.
The Astros offense wasted no time, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the very first inning. Jeremy Peña got the scoring started with an RBI single, followed by an RBI single from Christian Walker. Brendan Rodgers then hit a sacrifice fly to cap the early rally.
Toronto’s only run came in the third inning when Nathan Lukes hit a solo home run off Blanco, cutting the lead to 3-1.
However, the Astros continued to build their lead in the later innings. Yainer Díaz hit an RBI double in the sixth, scoring Christian Walker, and Isaac Paredes added a solo home run in the seventh (his fourth of the season) to extend Houston’s lead to 5-1.
The Astros’ bullpen, including Bryan King, Bryan Abreu, and Mason Fluharty, successfully closed out the game, allowing no further runs. Houston finished with 10 hits in the contest, including three hits each from Jeremy Peña and Christian Walker.
The win improves the Astros’ record to 12-11 as they continue their home stand.
