Díaz’s Grand Slam Powers Astros to Dominant 14-3 Rout of Angels

April 11, 2025

HOUSTON, TX – April 11, 2025 – The Houston Astros erupted for a season-high 14 runs last night, delivering a resounding 14-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels at Daikin Park. Catcher Yainer Díaz was the catalyst, hitting his first career grand slam to spark a massive offensive explosion.

The Angels initially took a brief lead, with Mike Trout hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning, and an RBI single from Jo Adell in the fifth putting them up 2-1. However, this lead quickly evaporated as the Astros’ bats came alive.

Houston’s offense exploded in the bottom of the fifth inning, pushing across six runs. After Yordan Alvarez tied the game with an RBI single and Christian Walker gave the Astros the lead with another RBI single, Yainer Díaz stepped to the plate with the bases loaded. He then launched his first career grand slam, turning a precarious 3-2 lead into a commanding 7-2 advantage.

The Astros continued their onslaught in the sixth inning, adding four more runs, and tacked on three more in the eighth. Díaz was a standout performer, finishing the night with three hits and a career-high five RBIs. Rookie Cam Smith also had a memorable night, hitting his first career home run—a two-run shot in the eighth—and Isaac Paredes added a solo blast in the same inning.

Astros starter Ronel Blanco (1-1) earned the win, allowing just two runs on five hits over five innings, while striking out seven. Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz (1-1) took the loss.

The Astros compiled 17 hits in the rout, showcasing their offensive depth and breaking a recent streak of close games. This dominant victory improves the Astros’ record to 6-7 on the season.
