MINNEAPOLIS, MN – April 6, 2025 – The Houston Astros pulled off a stunning 9-7 extra-innings victory against the Minnesota Twins last night at Target Field, erasing a six-run deficit with a relentless comeback. Yordan Alvarez’s game-tying blast and late heroics from Jose Altuve sealed one of the most memorable wins of the young season for Houston.
The game started bleakly for the Astros, as they quickly found themselves in a deep hole. Twins starter Ronel Blanco had a short outing, but by the end of the fourth inning, the Astros were trailing significantly, down 7-1.
However, the Astros’ offense ignited a spectacular rally, scoring eight unanswered runs. The comeback began in the fifth inning with a three-run outburst, featuring an RBI single from Isaac Paredes and a sacrifice fly from Jeremy Peña, cutting into the Twins’ substantial lead. Houston added another run in the sixth inning, continuing to chip away.
The drama peaked in the ninth inning. With the Astros still trailing, Yordan Alvarez stepped to the plate and delivered a monumental moment, launching a game-tying two-run home run off Twins reliever Griffin Jax. It was Alvarez’s first homer of the season, a Statcast-projected 418-foot shot with an exit velocity of 108.4 mph, sending the game into extra innings.
The Astros completed their incredible comeback in the 10th inning. With automatic runner Brendan Rodgers on second, Jose Altuve singled him home for the go-ahead run. Not content with just that, Jake Meyers then executed a daring double steal, swiping home to give the Astros an crucial insurance run.
Astros closer Josh Hader pitched two clean innings in extras, ultimately earning the win (1-0) for his dominant relief work.
This remarkable 9-7 triumph not only secured the series victory for the Astros but also showcased their resilience and explosive offensive potential, moving their record to 4-5 on the season.
