MINNEAPOLIS, MN – April 5, 2025 – The Houston Astros out-hit the Minnesota Twins 9-6 last night, but a disastrous fourth inning and an inability to capitalize on opportunities led to a 6-1 loss at Target Field. The defeat puts the Astros’ record at 3-5 on the young season.

Twins reliever Cole Sands (1-0) earned the win, while Astros starter Spencer Arrighetti (1-1) took the loss, experiencing a tough outing.

The Astros got on the board early in the top of the first inning when Jose Altuve launched his second home run of the season, a solo shot, giving Houston a 1-0 lead. Altuve finished the night 3-for-5, a bright spot in an otherwise dim offensive performance for Houston.

However, the game turned decisively in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Twins exploded for six runs against Arrighetti and reliever Tayler Scott. The big blow came from Jose Miranda, who crushed a three-run home run, his first of the season. Following that, Matt Wallner added an RBI double, and Carlos Correa contributed an RBI single. A key error by Astros left fielder Jose Altuve and a throwing error by reliever Tayler Scott contributed to the Twins’ massive inning, with one of the runs being unearned.

Despite collecting nine hits, the Astros left a staggering 11 runners on base throughout the game, failing to convert scoring chances into runs after the first inning.

The Astros will look to regroup and salvage a win in the final game of their series against the Twins.
