Mauricio Dubón Wins Second Gold Glove Award at Utility Position

November 3, 2025

HOUSTON, TX – November 3, 2025 – Houston Astros utility player Mauricio Dubón captured his second Gold Glove Award on Sunday night, winning the American League utility position honor and becoming the first player in Major League history to win multiple Gold Glove Awards at that spot.

Dubón, who previously won the utility Gold Glove in 2023, beat out finalists Ernie Clement of the Blue Jays and Daniel Schneemann of the Guardians. The utility position was added as a Gold Glove category in 2022.

For the third consecutive season, Dubón played every position on the diamond except pitcher and catcher, showcasing extraordinary versatility during a season when injuries plagued the Astros roster. He made starts at second base (37), shortstop (24), third base (15), left field (15), center field (10), right field (2) and first base (1), combining for 104 total starts across seven positions.

His defensive metrics were elite across the board: 14 defensive runs saved, +17 fielding run value, and +20 outs above average—the sixth-most in all of Major League Baseball regardless of position.

Dubón becomes the seventh Astros player to win multiple Gold Glove Awards, joining Doug Rader (1970-74), César Cedeño (1972-76), Craig Biggio (1994-97), Brad Ausmus (2001-02, ’06), Michael Bourn (2009-10), and Dallas Keuchel (2014-16, ’18). He is the only Astros position player to accomplish the feat in the American League.

The Astros acquired Dubón from the Giants in May 2022, and he played a key role in Houston’s World Series championship that year. The 31-year-old has now won Gold Gloves in two of his three full seasons with the organization, cementing his status as one of baseball’s premier defensive utility players.

By winning a Gold Glove, Dubón is now eligible for the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award, with fan voting open until November 5 at 10:59 p.m. Fans can vote at mlb.com/platinumglove.
